you about the new year's eve violence in san francisco last night. police in sacramento are investigating a deadly shooting near a fireworks show. our reporter mike lori tells us two people were killed three others were hurt. what happened out there, mike? >> reporter: well, dave, sacramento police say they have the shooter in custody. the 22-year-old gunman is in the hospital right now. he too was shot it turns out by an armed sure guard who intervened and actually stopped the deadly shooting before it claims even more lives. we do know that two people are dead and three injured following a shooting this tack place a at a bar in old sacramento. one of those dead is an employee, believed to be a waiter who worked in the restaurant. the incident forced the cancellation of new year's eve celebrations, causing thousands of people to head for home without any fireworks at all. here's what one eyewitness told us about. >> we heard gunshots. the dude came into that hooka place shooting. come back out. ran around the corner and was firing down the sidewalk. some guy with a baby

. >>> in sacramento two people were killed in a shoot-out at a sports bar. police say an employee at the sports corner on second street in old sac tried to break up a fate, and that's when a 22-year- old man pulled out a gun and started shooting. the bar employee and another man were both killed. police say the gunman ran off into a crowd of families who had just finished watching the 9:00 p.m. fireworks show. >> everybody just scattered. everybody just ran towards the big christmas tree, towards the water. scree body was running that way. we just went into one of the stores. >> police say an armed security guard confronted the shooter and the two exchanged gunfire. both were injured. the gunman was taken into custody. sacramento city officials had to cancel the midnight fireworks show as a result of that shooting, but just after 8:00 this morning, organizers had to set off the fireworks show, surprising a lot of people who live in the area. the organizers say once the fireworks are set up and ready to be exploded they can't be stored or dismantled. >>> in san jose a naked man waving a samurai sword

in the farming community about 30 miles south of downtown sacramento. police say officer kevin tonk confronted the suspect. other officers moved in on the gunman. >> suspect then fired several rounds back at one of the officers. and then shortly turned away and then turned back around and turned the gun on himself. >> police have not released the name of the suspect. >>> a gruesome discovery in the north bay. a body is found in the trunk of a bar. the gold sedan was parked in a no parking zone north of east cotati avenue. rita, you've learned the name of the victim and his link to a previous case. >> that's right. >> reporter: it's a rather intriguing case. a body stuffed in the trunk of a car parked in a rather well traveled area. it was here on petaluma hill road at east cotati avenue, not on the sonoma state campus, but right across the street from it. >> i saw it parked there. >> reporter: lawrence ricardo was returning from winter break sunday when he says he noticed the gold car here in a no parking area. at first he thought it was for sale. now he knows it had a body in the trunk. >> i

their final goodbyes to a sacramento-area police officer shot and killed in the line of duty. officer kevin ton was killed last tuesday when police say he got into a struggle with a burglary suspect. services are scheduled for 11:00 at adventure christian church in roseville. the united states honor flag will be displayed at his office. it was first displayed at godshortly after 911. >>> we're learning more about the 15-year-old boy accused of killing his parents and three of his siblings in their albuquerque home. nehemiah was arrested on murder charges. a motive has not been arrested. but he frequently dressed in camouflage, he was home schooled and had few friends his age. nehemiah's father, greg grow agrow, was a well-known -- greg griego, was a well-known pastor. >>> a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the east bay. police are out there looking for at least three other suspects after a deadly shooting at a b.a.r.t. station. police say two groups of people got into an argument saturday afternoon. that led to a gun battle at the station's b.a.r.t. bus stop. a 50-year-old bystander was

. the great sacramento valley. 200 miles of it. literally from the beginning of san francisco bay, 200 miles up the sacramento river. and probably, i haven't been able to count all the levees in my district, but i probably have well over 1,500 miles of levees that protect large cities, medium-sized cities, farms and other critical assets and infrastructure in the state of california. for example, the intercontinental rail system. both north and south. intercontinental highway systems. universities. international airports. these critical assets are at risk of flooding. the army corps of engineers, taking a look at the levees in one part of my district, a basin which is part of the city of sacramento, judges those levees to have a one in 30 chance of failure so that over a 30-year period of time it's anticipated there will be a catastrophic failure of those levees. 100,000 lives just in that part of sacramento at immediate risk because those flood waters, should those levees fail, it would make -- it would be a repeat of what happened in new orleans only the water is deeper. and the flood wate
. officials say it started with argument sacramento ahead of a planned fireworks celebration. an employee who tried to break up the fight was shot and killed along with another man. authorities say an armed guard heard the shots and got into a gun fight with the apparent suspect. cops later arrested a 22-year-old in connection with the shooting. new jersey, a five alarm fire ripped through a northberg housing complex damage caused by hurricane sandy. the flames burned in three building at the complex and collapsed one roof it took 100 firefighters several hours to get control of the flames. no major injuries reported. alaska. an oil drilling ship ran aground off the state's southern coast it happened after the broke free from towing ship. the coast guard launched a rescue mission and evacuated all of the vessel's 18 crew members before it ran aground. officials say winds topped 60 miles per hour and seas up of to 35 feet. the vessel had more than 150,000 gallons of fuel on board. no spills reported. that's a fox watch across america. i'm rick folbaum in for shepard smith. this is the fox repo
